Danglers or Wobblers!
Have you ever sat and wondered why do people buy the things they buy? How can I go into a store with a list of three things I need to buy and come out with 10? I believe it is because of the ingenious product merchandisers in this world that coax us into it. They use tools like danglers, shelf talkers and channel strips among other things and we take it all in and buy, buy, buy.
Are you looking for ways to become an ingenious product merchandiser?
By definition merchandising refers to the variety of products available for sale and the display of those products in such a way that stimulates interest and entices customers to make a purchase. Sounds easy right? Well actually it can be the key is this...
- Display sale items in a creative way
- Use accent lighting to feature products
- Change displays weekly
- Colour matters – colour can demand a shoppers attention, evoke emotion and influence decisions
- Merchandise themes, group products together for a powerful visual message
Now that the entire store is looking good you can focus on capitalizing on the impulse buyer. Using point of purchase (POP) materials can help. I like danglers (or wobblers as they are also known as) – they attach into the channel moulding of your store fixtures or you can have them made with double sided tape to attach to anything. Then they hang and “dangle” in the faces of shoppers aiming to grab their attention enough to look at what you are trying to sell and entice them enough to say “hey I want to try that!”
What do you do to attract those impulse buyers? I would love to hear your merchandising do's and don'ts!
